1. Carry Picture I.D. - To verify who you are
2. Stay away from lit barbecues and open campfires. In other words, avoid smoke or flames.
3. Hold your breath when snapping photos on a cold night. Exhaled breath can show up as
mist or fog on film.
4. Tie long hair back so it doesn't show up in front of the lens.
5. Know where your camera strap is at all times. Either have it around your neck or take it
off. Also be mindful of a tangling lens cover. Camera straps can be mistaken for Vortexes.
6. Avoid taking pictures during any adverse weather conditions. This includes windy days.
No Photos should be taken outside during bad weather - This means no photos during rain,
lightning storms, all storms, mist, fog, snow, wind (excess 35 MPH), and/or areas with heavy
dust. No photographs should be taken inside during bad conditions - Seeing dust in the
viewfinder is considered a bad condition and the shot should not be taken, unless the camera
has a special setting for these conditions.
7. Stay off private property unless you have permission.
8. Never go on an investigation alone, particularly in a secluded area.
9. Make sure your camera lens is clean. A large smudge can look like an anomaly. Camera
must be kept clean at all times.
10. Know where your fingers are and keep them away from the lens - Index and thumb in a
"C" position with the rest tucked in.
11. Avoid taking pictures of shinny objects. This means glass, mirrors, reflective objects, and
anything else that shines or could cause a reflection. Do not take photos while walking on
dusty roads. Do not take photos of moving objects - Any notable pictures of objects such as
cars, balls, people, etc. should be omitted from evidence.
12. If you have a camera with night settings, use that setting when taking pictures in the
evening and inside of dark buildings.
13. Avoid lens flare. Never take pictures in the direction of the sun or a strong light source.
Try to have the light source behind you when snapping a picture. No shots of the sun - This
causes lens flare. No shots of the moon - The moon can look like an orb to the untrained eye.
14. No horse play during an investigation. Show reverence and respect in cemeteries,
battlefields, etc. Be respectful of the locations and of the dead.
15. Never dare spirits to come around. You might get your wish and they aren't always
friendly in this situation.
16. Promote positive energy during an investigation or ghost hunt. The "good" ghosts might
sense fear and stay away. The "bad" ones seem to feed off of one's fear. Either way, for
best results always go into an investigation with positive and compassionate feelings. In
other words think happy thoughts. Positive mental attitude is very important for all
investigations. Skeptical minds may possibly generate negative energy if not kept in "check".
17.Let the ghosts know shat you are doing and why you are there. Invite them to have their
picture taken.
18. Be objective about the things you encounter. Try to find other rational explanations for
everything. If there is no other explanation for what you witness, you may be on to something.
19. It 's always a good idea to have a cell phone with you, just in case...
20. A ghost hunt is no place for cigarettes and alcohol. Cigarette smoke looks like ghostly
forms in photos and alcohol can distort your senses, you surely don't need that. This goes
for any other mind altering substances as well. If smoking, be very careful not to photograph
the smoke.
21. Interview witness(es) - To gain an idea of what you are possibly dealing with and to
assess past and current mental states of the witness(es). Any witnesses that have not been
interviewed before should be interviewed by two (2) members and audio or video recorded
(with consent of the witness(es). Using the official witness questionnaire.
22. Check batteries and clean all equipment prior to the investigation/s - This is to insure
accurate data and to prevent equipment failure.
23. Scan for EMF leakage with an EMF meter. - To point out areas that can give false
readings and to find high concentrations of EMF where entities feed.
24. Always remember, the living come first. Never endanger the other members of your team.
25. Check Negatives for confirmation (If it's on the negative, it was there) and for scratches or
dust. - Using a magnifying glass, go over the frames of potential entities. Getting a second
copy will also confirm dust.
26. Always use fresh audio and video tapes to obtain the highest quality recordings. This will
eliminate artifacts from old recordings.
27. Make no conclusions. Share no conclusions or opinions with clients. All the reports,
photos, and tapes must be reviewed before we can make any conclusions. The on site
director can alter these protocols if necessary. These guidelines will make us look
professional and caring to the clients needs.
28. Every member must keep a log of events/times or call them into the central logger.
Everything needs to be logged, no matter how trivial. If you sneeze, log it in, it may sound like
something else to another member somewhere else in the building.
29 EVP recording should be done in the "background".
30. Psychic/sensitive detectives must log everything, events, feelings, etc. into notes or on
tape. Do not state observations out loud if a client is present unless directed to before hand
by the on site director.
31. Reports must be turned in by each member that attended the investigation within one
week. The form is mailed to you from the directors and all you have to do is fill in the blanks.
We do this so that a formal report for the client can be given to them within 30 days of an
investigation.
32. Flash is only good for 9 - 12 feet from the camera so focus on that range.
33. All members and clients, if possible, need to walk through the location upon arrival. One
member should map the location noting: air vents, heaters, fuse boxes, electrical appliances,
computers, light sources, reflective objects, etc. One member should take 10 - 15 test
photos during the walk through.
34. Do not wear perfume, cologne, or anything else with a noticeable scent. This is so
someone doesn't mistake the smell for a supernatural occurrence. Spirits often use smells
to get our attention.
